One of the most common questions I hear from clients and tarot students is,“How can I make the most of the year ahead?” My favorite way, is to complete a full 12 month reading but for many new clients and tarot students this is “too much information”! To avoid this stress and overwhelm, I share with them an easy way to gain great insights by discovering their Personal Card of The Year.

What’s a Personal Card of The Year? It’s the Major Arcana card that corresponds to your birth day in the current year! It’s super-simple to find, and only takes 3 steps and some basic math to figure it out!

Once you know your Personal Card of The Year, you’ll be well on your way to making informed decisions and overcoming obstacles in your path.

This is how you do it!

1. Write down the numerical digits for your birthday along with those of the new year.
Example: If your birthday is May 15 and the new year is 2021 = 5/15/2021

2. Add the digits together 5+1+5+2+0+2+1 to get a total. In this example they add up to 16. If you get a 2 digit number, add those two digits together until you have one digit, in this case 1+6 = 7.

3. Look in your tarot deck for the Major Arcana Card that matches your number. There you have it, your Personal Card of The Year!

In this example, the card of the year for a person born on May 15th is The Chariot! There you have it, your Personal Card of The Year! Now explore the meanings of your card!

Sample Brainstorming Questions for The Chariot:

How’s your chariot doing? Will you put the pedal to the metal to reach your goals? Have you been going too fast and need to define what’s important so you can be in first place? Is your Chariot stuck in the mud? Do you have too many projects? Is your chariot careening out of control?

How can you harness your chariot? Can you get yourself back in the race and win? What opportunities are coming that you can take advantage of to propel you forward?

On a more mundane level, Are you tending to your transportation needs?

What does this say about your voice? Do you need to ramp up your communications? Put yourself out there with public speaking gigs? Find your rhythm? Enunciate more clearly for understanding? Is it the year to leap forward with voice for business coaching, it’s not just for singers, you know. 🙂

These questions and more will come as you brainstorm with your Personal Card of The Year.

You may want to use your Personal Card of The Year in tandem with the Universal Card of The Year! To do this, repeat the same process to reduce the year number, 2+0+2+1 = 5. You guessed it! The Universal Card of The Year for 2021 is The Hierophant!

Compare and contrast the two cards to add another layer of meaning to your opportunities, challenges and things to be on the look out for in 2021.

Now, you maybe thinking, “But Kathleen there are 22 Major Arcana cards why can’t I keep 16 as my number?” The answer is that in my training I learned, and have found it to be true, that the first grouping of cards in the Major Arcana , cards 0-9, represent ourselves on a Personal Level.

After that, the other cards reach out and expand into the world. If you’d like to use more corresponding cards you are welcome to do so, but as I said at the beginning of this post that might be “too much information”, when you’re just starting your tarot journey.

The tarot has never steered me wrong in all my years of doing this simple one card reading!

Discovering your Personal Card of The Year is a great way to start becoming the conscious creator of your life! Go ahead! Discover yours now!
