Music Studio Policy

In 30 years of private teaching, I have never found it necessary to require an adult student, or the parent(s) of a minor student, to sign a contract committing to lessons for months, or a year, in advance. I believe it to be impractical for grade school students beginning their musical explorations and a hindrance to learning in difficult financial times.

That said, I do ask that payments be made monthly at the first lesson of each month. I do not offer refunds. If a student wishes to discontinue, any unused paid lessons should completed as to give the student time to consider continuing and allow me the necessary time to fill that empty lesson slot so as to avoid a loss of income.

Pre-Paid Lessons and Gift Certificates may be transferred to another family member.

1.  Please arrive on time. Your time is specially reserved for you each week.

2.  Please be prepared with your music and any homework assignments.

3.  Parents of minor children and teens are always welcome in the studio.

4.  Parents: If you wish to speak with me about your child, please do so either during your child’s scheduled lesson time or make another appointment.

5.  Please let me know in advance if you are bringing a friend to your lesson.

6.  Payments are accepted in the form of cash, local check or money order.

7.  Payments are expected at the first lesson of each month for the number of lessons in the month barring federal and/or religious holidays, prior known conflicts, or studio closing.

8.  Lessons cancelled due to emergency (snow, illness etc…) studio closing will be rescheduled as soon as possible.

9. If YOU are ill, please call and reschedule for another time. Better to reschedule than to sing/play when you are not feeling well, possibly hurting yourself, or spreading germs to others.

10. Please let me know 24 hours in advance of any need to reschedule or cancel your lesson. In the case of a sudden illness or family emergency please do you best to give me 2 hours notice.

11. If you have long standing plans, vacation, or special events for which you must  reschedule your lesson, please let me know as soon as possible.

12. There are no refunds for lessons. All lessons should be “made up” within the same week, based on availability in the teaching schedule. If circumstances do not allow for a make up lesson within the same week, it may be scheduled the following week or, if scheduling permits, time may be added to the next regularly scheduled lesson.

13. Sheet music, lesson books, and other materials are not included in the lesson fee. I will be happy to provide them for reimbursement at the current retail price plus applicable tax.

14. Music lessons are an allergy free zone. Please do not bring food or non-water drinks of any kind to your lesson. Water bottles may be brought. We also provide individual servings of bottled water for your convenience. Please do not wear perfume, cologne or other types of long lasting scented body spray on the day of your lesson. Please do not bring your family pet your lesson.

15. Miss Kathleen, reserves the right to remove students from the schedule if they have poor attendance, poor practice habits, or if they repeatedly break any studio policies.

Thank you!

Miss Kathleen
