I had the opportunity to chat with the Goddess Venus for this month’s Divine Voice Goddess blog and, Oh My! The Goddess of Love, Beauty and Sexiness had plenty to say regarding the misinformation being circulated in the self-help world regarding the care and use of a sexy voice. She was so passionate about the subject that in our recent interview she called it, The Sexy Voice Hoax!

Venus felt called to speak out because she knows her followers want to look, feel and sound sexy, and she believes they are being taken advantage of by self-help gurus with no voice training!

Here is what Venus told me on the record.

Venus: Everyone knows I love fashion and beauty magazines and romance novels. I am the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Sensuality but I have a secret penchant for self-improvement books.

Me: Um…hmm… Really?

Venus: Yes, Darling! I am always looking for new trends. One of my favorite strategies is keeping an eye on what mortals are drawn to, so I can design the next best thing!

Me: Um…hmm… And what drew you to the book you want to tell me about?

Venus: Well, Sweetheart, this book happens to be my favorite kind of self-help book. It’s all about improving one’s sexiness quotient. You know, the kind of book that’s a best-seller in any millennium. I was drawn to the cover art like a moth to the flame! I have a weakness for gorgeous visuals and, as Goddess of All Things Sexy, I was intrigued to learn more about the advice mortals are sharing these days.

Me:  Um…hmm… Tell me more!

Venus: So, there I was entranced with prose about silk, satin, velvet and everything delightfully tactile, when all of a sudden I was jarred out of my reverie!

Me: Um…hmm… How disconcerting!

Venus: Indeed, Lovey! Once again, a relationship expert, fashion stylist, weight loss guru and sex therapist all in one, with no voice training (None, Dahlink, I checked her bio), offered up that woeful advice about dropping one’s voice an octave to sound sexier! Shades of red, green, pink, and purple swirls flashed before my eyes and my blood started pounding, not in a good way.

I am fed up with reading uninformed, and benevolently misguided at best, voice advice from writers who are not voice specialists! Worst of all, they claim this advice promotes self-empowerment!

It’s The Sexy Voice Hoax and it needs to be stopped immediately! That’s why I asked to move our interview up before Valentine’s Day! We need to act now to mitigate the damage.

Me: Um…hmm… And how can we do that Goddess?

Venus: Not we, Dear. You! Use the gifts Goddess has given you! You are blessed with my planet, Venus, in Taurus and have Libra for your Rising sign. You appreciate beauty in all of its yumminess, you prize relationships and voices are your business.

Kathleen, I call on you to end The Sexy Voice Hoax now! Your mission is to train mortals in techniques to help them sound sincere, charismatic, and as sexy as possible without sacrificing voice health.

Me: Um…hmm…

(To be continued…)
